Oh, The Hours (RVLVR Remix)
Ben O'Neill
RVLVR (Revolver) is the moniker of James Sauppe, a composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist who doesn’t adhere to genre-specific music. James earned a BM in Music Performance from the University of the Arts (RIP) in Philadelphia, a Master’s in Music Technology from SUU, and has released official records on Noremixes, Seclusiasis, and Slit Jockey Records. He currently teaches music production and game audio courses at the Community College of Philadelphia (CCP) as a part of its budding Sound Recording and Music Technology program.
Grammy-nominated artist Ben O’Neill is a Philadelphia-based songwriter and guitarist whose impressive credits include John Legend, Jill Scott, Sting, Kanye West, Common, Erykah Badu, and many others. He currently teaches guitar at CCP, where he served as its Artist in Residence for 2024. O’Neill has several releases on Spring Garden Records, including the Mini Q’s Ride Again (A&R’d and Co-produced by Sauppe), and a forthcoming album made during his CCP residency, soon to be released on Spring Garden Records.
Sauppe’s remix of Oh, The Hours, is a vast departure from the acoustic, stripped-down original version of the song, released in 2021 on O’Neill’s, LIGHT Volume One. RVLVR retains the simplistic acoustic guitar and upright bass of the original, but uses the guitar meticulously, while complementing the profound, ethereal vibe of the song with felt piano, strings, electric piano, and synthesizers. The vocals retain their original linear format, processed by RVLVR but not chopped up or rearranged in any way. According to O’Neill’s description of the remix, it could be “seamlessly dropped into Disney’s Fantasia,” which served as the inspiration to include an instrumental version with the release, as well.
