Unexpected Flock

Ben O'Neill’s follow-up to last year’s solo release "Gemini" arrives as an EP from the newly formed Ben O'Neill Trio. Featuring Shane Aaserud on bass and Mikel Patrick Avery on drums, the trio brings together a collection of improvised interpretations of popular songs from the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s, reimagined in a jazz setting. Moving effortlessly from The Ronettes to Patsy Cline and Paul Simon, then to Antonio Carlos Jobim and Rodgers & Hart, the Ben O'Neill Trio captures a vivid snapshot in time: live recordings that showcase three Philadelphia-based musicians at the height of their creative output.
