GENERIC

Sean Bailey's GENERIC is an exploratory work for clarinet and electronics.  GENERIC was Bailey's Temple University PhD dissertation piece, studying musical improvisation, machine learning and generative composition.  In the composer's own words, GENERIC explores the "nexus of human and artificial intelligence—both in theory and praxis through the lens of musical composition."

The work features Bailey's virtuosic clarinet creating a dialogue with evolving electronics.  The clarinet's naturally expressive tone sits amongst deep subs and pulsing splashes of color, creating a balanced partnership in composition.
