John Morrison is a writer, producer and DJ from Philadelphia. For the past 20+ years, Morrison has worked as a freelance music journalist, documenting and reporting on Philly hip hop culture. His writing has appeared in the Philadelphia City Paper, NPR Music, The Wire, Redbull Music Academy, Bandcamp Daily and more. Headphone Masterpieces, his quarterly column for The American Poetry Review presents deep-dive explorations of the historical and cultural significance of classic albums across genres.
An in-demand on-air personality, Morrison regularly appears on NPR’s All Songs Considered and The World Cafe as well as NPR’s Tiny Desk Top Shelf series. As a music producer, Morrison creates sample-based beats, and has produced instrumental albums like 2016’s Southwest Psychedelphia and 2020’s Memorabilia, a colorful remix album dedicated to childhood and memory.
