Christopher Michael Stevens is our 2024-2025 Artist in Residence
We are very excited to announce that trumpeter, producer, artist and songwriter Christopher Michael Stevens is our Spring Garden Records 2024-2025 Artist in Residence!
Stevens is a Camden, New Jersey native and Temple University graduate who has been creating music since he was a teenager. The Grammy Award nominated songwriter has performed alongside artists such as John Legend, Eric Roberson, The Roots, Tye Tribbett & G.A., Ms. Lauryn Hill, and many more.
“I see CCP’s Artist in Residence program as an opportunity to share what I’ve lived and learned, but also to further develop as a musician,” Stevens said. “Philadelphia is full of talented musicians eager to hone their art. I can’t wait to be part of their educational experience, contribute to their development, and see how we all grow as artists.”
From performing on stages around the globe to composing music for film and television, Stevens is a multitalented, multidisciplined artist. In his early days, he traveled the world with Sony Music recording artist Tye Tribbett & G.A. as a member of the band Soundcheck. He has founded two bands of his own, Vertical Current in 2009 and The Chris Stevens Quartet (CSQ) in 2015. They have a number of recordings available and new material in the works.
In addition to being a bandleader, musician and producer, Stevens has also acted in Best Picture-nominated “La La Land” and the Amazon original series “A League of Their Own.” He has scored four feature films and two short films. Stevens can be heard as a featured soloist on the 2021 film “Really Love" as well as on the television shows “Cherish the Day” and “The Equalizer.”
Stevens is the College’s third Artist in Residence, following last year’s resident artist, Ben O'Neill, and the inaugural recipient, Ruth Naomi Floyd.
